Water safety plan: step-by-step risk management for drinking-water suppliers: training package
Overview
This training package provides practical, step-by-step guidance to support the development and sustainable implementation of water safety plans (WSPs) in line with the Water safety plan manual: step-by-step risk management for drinking-water suppliers, second edition (WHO & IWA, 2023).
Designed as a practice-oriented course, the package equips participants with the knowledge and skills to apply a proactive, risk-based approach to drinking-water management, from catchment to consumer. Through interactive lectures, country case examples, structured group activities and field-based exercises, participants gain hands-on experience in identifying hazards, assessing and prioritizing risks, strengthening control measures and monitoring, and learn to embed risk-orientated approaches and continuous improvement into routine practices.
The training integrates cross-cutting priorities highlighted in the second edition of the WSP Manual, including climate resilience and equity, supporting progressive advancement towards safe, equitable and more resilient drinking-water services.
The package is intended for water suppliers, regulators, public health authorities and organizations supporting water safety planning programmes, as well as trainers and academic institutions seeking to strengthen capacity for risk-based drinking-water management.
